Fat bikes or bicycle with fat wheels were created to easily tackle trails with particular terrain such as snow, sand rocky river beds or undergrowth. Thanks to the wheels and tires of generous thickness, the fatbikes have excellent grip, excellent traction and are comfortable enough.
The characteristics of fat bikes
The frames, light and sturdy, have rather simple geometries, and the transmission usually consists of a single chainring and a 10 to 12-speed sprocket set. Fat bikes are single-suspension or fully rigid for better traction and are instantly recognizable by their large, muscular wheels (up to over 200mm), mounted on solid 26 ”or 27” 5 rims. There is no impossible path for fat wheels: ice and snow, mud and water, sand. Over time, however, the fat bike has established itself, thanks to its attractive shapes, even as an all-round bike: used for simple off-road, walks and even in the city. Creative colourways and extralarge wheels don't go unnoticed, and now fat bikes may incorporate pedal assist to help everyone: they have turned into eFatbikes.
